MASON NECK HORSE COALITION MEETING MINUTES - 18 March 2007
In attendance: Kim Cook, Marilyn Hildebeidel, Jessica Hoopes, Tricia Holser, Hayley Holser-Green, Andi Leonard, Brian Purdy, Holly Turner, Linda Miller, Katie Teitel, Corliss Wallingford (Simple Changes)
Old business:
- Jinx agrees to Brian’s request that MNHC be allowed to hold annual membership meeting there.
- Bit by Bit, the new therapeutic riding group at Tamarack, is directed by Kerry Gross and works closely with Simple Changes.
- Marilyn reviewed the make-up of the board of directors as currently reported to the State Corporation Committee. Discussion of the need to hold elections by the end of year.
- Date set for annual membership meeting: Sunday, August 26
New business:
- Minutes from 1-21-07 meeting distributed and approved with one change: Tricia replaces Kim in helping Marilyn coordinate the sales of T-shirts at the St. Jude ride scheduled for June 3.
- Treasurer’s report distributed and approved.
- Marilyn to attend the meeting of the NVCEO on Wednesday evening.
- Holly requested that a tri-fold, table-top presentation display board be purchased. Tricia agreed to investigate.
- Simple Changes rep requested that the MNHC give some thought to doing a fundraiser in the future for a local charity. Another suggestion: the MNHC donate something to Simple Changes’ silent auction at the organization’s fundraising event September 29.
- Fundraising
- Holly Turner reports that sales of T-shirts and sweatshirts remains steady and she is fully stocked in a wide variety of sizes, styles and colors.
- Photo contest to promote T-shirt sales, membership: Holly outlines idea for conducting a photography contest featuring MNHC T-shirts/sweatshirts. The public is invited to submit a photograph (digital file or printed) of a person wearing a MNHC T-shirt or sweatshirt. There will be five categories, such as Best Photo Taken in a Foreign Land, Best Photo Taken with a Local Celebrity, etc. Scott will coordinate the contest; photographer Bonnie Walden, a friend of Andi’s, will serve as judge. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the annual membership meeting in August.
- Membership
- Annual membership meeting date set: Sunday, August 26 at Meadowood. Tricia will prepare an e-invitation and Linda will accept the RSVP responses. Caterer TBD.
- Marilyn reported that she was invited to bring her two BLM wild burros to the Elizabeth Hartwell earth day/arbor day event April 28 on Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge. She requested volunteer help in order to set up an informational booth on MNHC as a way to increase membership. Linda volunteered.
- Linda talked about the e-mail membership list and suggested e-mailing the minutes of meetings to the entire membership as a way to increase communication. She requested an electronic copy of the tri-fold brochure; Tricia volunteered to re-type it and send it.
- St. Jude Trail Ride (June 3)
- MNHC will place an ad in the Clifton Horse Society publication (Leadline) for $50
- Prizes
- Brian reports that The Saddlery Liquidator has pledged a $250 store certificate; he suggested that it be the grand prize awarded to the person who raises the most money.
- Brian purchased clearance-priced “thank you stuffed bears” from St. Jude’s to distribute as tokens of appreciation to the essential volunteers for the trail ride
