Two Simple Changes' riders designed this year's ribbon. The two young artists, Alyssa Martin and Lia Winnard are both Mason Neck residents. Both are independent riders with Simple Changes.
Alyssa, age 9, has been riding with Simple Changes for about 3 years now. She has glaucoma. Alyssa says that riding the "BEST" horses and having the "BEST" instructors has helped her improve her vision through routine lessons..
Lia, age 12, has been involved with therapeutic horseback riding since she was 4 years old, the last 4 years she has ridden with Simple Changes. She suffered a stroke before birth and is weaker on the right side of her body. Horseback riding has allowed Lia to proved wrong the doctor’s prognosis that she’d be unable to walk, talk or see much of anything. Seizures starting at age 5 slowed Lia down but surgery two years ago to halt the seizures have allowed her to get back on track. Horseback riding has improved her balance, coordination, motor planning, vision and speech – not to mention self-confidence.
